It would seem almost like if he was meant to be the antichrist, then Satan probably said “hold up, no body is falling for this.. lets go to plan B.” Although chances are its slide of hand, I do know a few Christians who are were dead set on Maitreya being the Antichrist but after studying a little bit realized it was just too obvious. One thing that stands out to me on that is that we are told that no one will know the time of the rapture, or predict when it will happen. Obviously the Antichrist comes around that time, so to assume a being that hasn’t came yet would be the antichrist would mean we are predicting who the they are and when they will come, which means we are somewhat predicting the rapture. I think the Bible is clear that no one will know who the Antichrist is until after they have came to this world and had some sort of national or worldwide publicity.
