Richard Bennett originally comes from Ireland, where he was trained by Jesuits in his early years. He then received eight years of theological instruction and preparation for the priesthood with the Dominicans, completing his education at a University in Rome in 1964. He spent twenty-one years as a Roman Catholic parish priest in Trinidad West Indies. He had, therefore, the best of academic training in things Catholic, plus twenty-one years of being a parish priest applying Catholic teachings to everyday life. After a serious accident in 1972, in which he nearly lost his life, he began to study seriously the Bible. After fourteen years of contrasting Catholicism to Biblical truth, he was convicted by the Gospel message in 1986. He was then saved by God’s grace alone, and formally left the Roman Catholic Church and its priesthood. He has founded an evangelistic ministry to Catholics called “Berean Beacon” (www.bereanbeacon.org)

terrific interview – I hope you have Richard Bennett back again. I was raised as a catholic but left the church at 17 when I graduated from high school. Although I attended catholic school for 12 years, I received very little education of the Bible -confession and communion was stressed but not the word of God. I was genuinely confused about the devotion to Jesus Christ professed by Christians until I joined a Baptist Church. In the catholic faith, the important personages were the priests (and pope and bishops, etc.)I thank God that God does not leave his people to drift but calls us to repentance through Jesus Christ. Now I study the Bible and am caught up in God’s Word. The catholic church condemns one to constant guilt with no confidence of redemption because they do not turn to Jesus Christ but their own clergy and that is not God’s plan for us. Thanks and good interview – I really appreciate how you let your guests talk without interrupting them.
You can really hear the compassion Mr. Bennett has for those enslaved to this system, as he once was. His knowledge and personal experience give a depth to his testimony that can help others understand the differences in tradition and what the Bible teaches so they too can become born again believers in Jesus Christ. I appreciated the information I learned from listening to this of the early church leaders and their writings, which is contrary to what some of the people I know in the RCC espouse. As the above post mentioned – it is nice to be able to hear guests without them being constantly interrupted, thus your interview allowed a cohesiveness and forward movement to what Mr. Bennett had to say.
